About the project

Dukan Refinery was established between 2012 and 2014 in Sulaymaniyah / Dukan Governorate. The refinery processes crude oil at a capacity of 20,000 barrels per day to produce light gas, oil, white oil, light gasoline, and fuel oil.

Built by European companies using the most developed technologies, Dukan Refinery is one of the most modern and advanced refineries within the private sector in Kurdistan. It employs more than 520 technical, mechanical, and administrative staff.

The first stage is designed to process 20,000 BPSD of Taqtaq and Garmian field crude oil. Construction began at the end of 2013, with the crude distillation unit designed according to up-to-date technology and applicable international standards.

The refinery features one of the best economical design efficiencies, with highly efficient heat exchange in a preheating train of 10 heat exchangers that reduces heating load, fuel consumption, and cooling-water demand. A state-of-the-art DCS control system manages the crude unit and all utilities.

Additional utility units include power generation, instrument air, nitrogen production, cooling water, steam-generation boilers, chemical treatment, water treatment, loading and unloading terminals, electrical substations, firefighting systems, laboratories, and warehouses.

Future expansion plans include a second-stage crude distillation unit of 40,000 BPSD, a naphtha hydrotreating and splitting unit, a catalytic reforming unit, an isomerization unit, and a semi-regenerative catalytic reformer complex.
